The Addams family is a classic film. It’s got everything you want, if you’re into that kind of thing: comedy, horror, and enough make-up to sink a regular sized-battle ship.
And then we have The
Judging by the number of vampires, werewolf and zombie films out there, there’s no reason at all why an incarnation of The Munsters shouldn’t work well as a movie–Or is there?
As we all know, sometimes revisiting past success just isn’t worth the time and money: what about The Hitcher? That was a great film! A simple concept: a mysterious hitch-hiker goes on the rampage, what could be easier to do again? But what happened when they did it without Rutger Hauer? It was a disaster, that’s what! And if there was only one example of a remake going off the rails then that’d be fine but–
Now, The Munsters isn’t so simple; that’s why I would worry about a movie. It had a lot of classic elements that all came together at the right time—not things which can be bought with any amount of Hollywood money. And let’s face it, The Munsters had its fair share of success—much more than some other shows.
Must we always look back to the past and wallow in nostalgia? I say we keep going and look for new things to make movies and series’ about: that way the grandchildren will have something to look forward to remaking–
