Calculating fuel costs-check that bill!
July 21, 2010 // Posted by: admin // Category: NewsDid you know theres an online caculator tool for mesuring energy. Its called an energy saving trust carbon calculator.
Its mentioned at the Enigin blog here.
Enigin has lots of energy saving tips. They also talk about how to read your gas bill and explain the two tariffs on the bill, which I also found helpful. I for one don’t know why they want to confuse people with a double tariff. Whats with the day reading and the night reading anyway? That wouldn’t be so bad if there wasn’t a third one.
Another cost saving tip is to always check your bill. For some reason our company seems to like to send estimated bills. These are bills that estimate the least use, then double the amount of utility than you actually do. This means we have to clear all the stuff in front of the stiff, hard-to-open closet door that houses the gas and electric meter and figure out how to read the metre. Then you need to phone up be on hold, hopfully they don’t cut you off just when a real live voice actually answers the phone. Then we normally give the actual meter reading.
On the one hand this is ok. I now know to expect a bill and it means we don’t have to pay the first one so it gives us more time. Doesn’t it waste paper to send out two bills though? Maybe the gas boards could be contacted so they don’t send out over-priced “estimated”bills. At least if they email them - even if you don’t press delete - they don’t get lost in a draw soemwhere plus think of all the trees they’d be saving by not sending out all that paper.
